Oki C610 Printer Review

Workgroup printers are often used heavily and with a variety of roles expected of them. With the Oki C610, you do get a lot for your money, with fast print speeds, a duty cycle of 75,000 pages, allowing this printer to satisfy most small to moderate business print levels and there are expansion options for those businesses looking to grow. There are a couple of idiosyncrasies with this machine, although we believe these can be overlooked with a low initial purchase price and continuing low cost of running.

Oki C610 PrinterThis is a perplexing printer when it comes to setting it up as we have become quite complacent and spoilt over the years, with printers requiring minimal interaction from us to get the printer actually printing. The Oki C610 toner available to you in the box with the printer has an array of packaging you will need to remove from the toner casing. Once you have felt around and made sure this is all pulled out and off, you will then need to go to the top of the printer and insert the toners from the top. The lid opens upwards and this may not necessarily present itself intuitively at first but after your first time around the machine, there will be no further queries or problems.

The next process of setting this printer up is also slightly confusing with manual driver selection and any additional options such as colour calibration will have to be selected from the CD individually, which may make the process slightly drawn out. On the positive side, the printer has both USB and Ethernet connections and setting it up onto the network was easy.

First page out on this machine is a tidy 9 seconds for colour and 8 seconds for black and white. The printing continues at a rapid 34 pages per minute for colour and 36 pages per minute for monochrome printing. Not bad for a printer this size and the colour replication is good with a tendency to print in the bolder regions, although this can be adjusted through the colour management tools available with the printer. The lovely feature of this printer is the cheapness of colour printing which means you will be able to print away photographs, documents and reports, all in glorious colour, to your heart’s content.

Oki have managed to pull-off a great all-rounder printer which will fit snugly into a corner, can use a wide range of media with a thickness up to a whopping 250 gsm, and has multiple buying options, which can include a duplex unit and a three year warranty as standard. The memory in this machine can be taken from 256mb to 512mb and a processor power of 533MHz, allowing this machine to be around for the long haul.
