HP LaserJet 5550 Review

The HP LaserJet 5550 is a color laser printer designed for medium to large offices and business that need a workgroup printer that can handle a substantial workload while still providing quick, high quality prints. With a monthly duty cycle of as much as 120,000 pages, and measuring only 22.7 inches wide, 27.7 inches deep, and 25.2 inches high, the HP LaserJet 5550 can easily be incorporated into an office.

As a workgroup printer, the HP LaserJet 5550 connects via a high speed USB cable and utilizes a wired Ethernet connection. The USB cable for this printer does not come included with the HP LaserJet 5550, and can be purchased separately from a computer or office supply retailer. The HP LaserJet 5550 is compatible with many major operating systems, including Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP/ME/NT, Mac OS 9, Mac OS X 10.1 and later, Linux Red Hat 8.0, and Solaris systems. This printer is also certified for use with Windows Vista.

The HP LaserJet 5550 prints in both black and white and full color through the use of four LaserJet 5550 toner cartridges. These HP 5550 toner cartridges come in black, yellow, magenta, and cyan, and produce high quality images and text while still maintaining a high page capacity. The black HP 5550 toner cartridge available for this printer is capable of printing up to 13,000 pages, while the magenta, cyan, and yellow LaserJet 5550 toner cartridges are each capable of printing up to 12,000 pages. In addition to high capacity toner cartridges, the HP 5550 has a high page capacity, and is capable of supporting 600 pages standard, with the option to increase the maximum page capacity to as much as 2100 pages. The high page capacity of the HP 5550 makes it easy to print large jobs, and with an average print speed of 27 pages per minute for black and white of full color, the HP 5550 makes it easy to quickly complete any print job. The first page out time for the HP 5550 is 16 seconds for both full color and black and white prints.

The HP 5550 prints with a resolution of 600 dpi by 600 dpi and is powered by a 533 MHz processor. This printer comes with 128 MB of memory installed, with the option to upgrade to as much as 512 MB of memory.
