Dell Laser Printers 2011

Dell introduced two new color laser printers for its 2011 line—the Dell 3100cn and the Dell 2130cn. Both printers are relatively inexpensive, so they are great investments for businesses on a budget. The printers lack the speed and some other features of comparable printers; however, the high quality prints they produce may be a worthwhile tradeoff. The Dell 3100cn has a monthly duty cycle of 45,000 sheets, which makes the printer suitable for small – to mid-size business operations or workgroups within larger operations. The Dell 2130cn has a monthly duty cycle of 70,000 and is equipped to handle the high-volume printing needs of larger operations.
The Dell 3100cn features USB, Parallel and Ethernet 10/100 Base-TX connectivity options. The Dell 3100cn also comes equipped with a status LCD screen to help walk users through the set-up process, as well as identify maintenance issues. The Dell 2130cn features USB, Ethernet and wireless connectivity options.
The Dell 3100cn includes four consumables—one black toner cartridge and three color toner cartridges. All starter toner cartridges—black, cyan, magenta and yellow—yield approximately 4,000 pages each. The Dell 2130cn comes equipped with black, cyan, magenta and yellow standard toner cartridges, which all yield approximately 1,000 pages each. Replacement toner cartridges are also available in high capacity, which yield approximately 2,500 pages each.

Both the Dell 3100cn and 2130cn produce color and monochrome documents at 600 dpi x 600 dpi resolution. The 2400 IQ image enhancement technology works with the printer’s resolution to ensure that color documents print true to color, and monochrome documents contain clean, crisp lines. The printers’ high resolution and the image enhancement technology combine to produce professional quality documents that are perfect for producing marketing materials and special in-house documents. The Dell 3100cn prints monochrome documents at 25 pages per minute, and color documents at 5 pages per minute. The Dell 2130cn is a little faster for color documents, but slower for monochrome documents. The printer produces monochrome documents at 20 pages per minute, and color documents at 16 pages per minute. The printer has a media capacity of 400 sheets, which can support most busy business operations. The media capacity is expandable to 900 sheets to support an increased printing demand. The Dell 2130cn has a media capacity of 250 sheets, which is expandable to 501 sheets.
The Dell 3100cn comes equipped with a 300 MHz processor and 64 MB of installed memory. However, if your needs change, the printer can grow with your business, as the memory is expandable up to 576 MB. The Dell 2130 offers more space. It comes equipped with a powerful 400 MHz processor that supports its 256 MB of installed memory, which can be expanded up to 1024 MB. The Dell 2130 features a duplexer for double-sided printing, however, the duplexer on the Dell 3100cn is an optional feature. The Dell 3100cn is Energy Star qualified and consumes 82 W of energy in standby/sleep mode, and 340 W of energy when in operation. The Dell 2130cn is also Energy Star qualified and Blue Angel certified, using 25% less power than comparable models. The printer also comes equipped with an N-Up feature, which enables the printing of multiple pages on one sheet of paper, which can significantly help reduce consumption and waste.
